I am a wife, mother, grandmother, herbalist and homemaker who loves to cook and create medicinal wonders with herbs, who loves to garden, sing, read and play with my dog. I love to camp and frolic in the woods, swim in the rivers and far out into lakes while my husband screams from the shore for me to come back in! I love to laugh and enjoy the little things in life, savoring the small pleasures found amidst the cares and stresses of day to day living. I am committed to living a healthy and fit lifestyle and have made exercise and healthy cooking a daily habit, hoping to enjoy the coming years with health and vitality.
I want you to join me in this big adventure we call life! I decided to start this blog so that I could not only share what knowlege I have of herbs and homemaking but also so that I could in turn learn something from my readers. Housewives are amazing people with skills and abilities that only other housewives can appreciate! I want to provide information for those housewives who are trying to "green" their lives, homes and families. Though I don't live totally green I am striving to become greener with time. I am here to help people incorporate herbs and natural remedies into their lives one step at a time, like me! We can all learn from each other so please join me in my mission to become a truly great healthy and natural homemaker!
Though I was a housewife when I began this blog, I am now working almost full time. I work in a Naturopathic Clinic with awesome naturopaths and accupuncurists who are dedicated to patient health as well as the health of our planet and environment. I am the clinic phlebotomist and medical assistant, helping the nurses with patient care and other clinic needs. I love time spent with patients and watching them get better, something I never really saw happen in the world of modern medicine where patients and their illnesses are merely (and barely adequately) managed. I have enjoyed a 23 year career in healthcare but many years ago I became quite disillusioned with our country's medical system as well as BigPharma and conventional drugs.
In 2005 I began to explore alternatives and discovered herbal medicine. I began dabbling in the spring of that pivotal year and dug up everything I could find about natural medicine and herbal remedies, devouring book after book until I realized this was how I wanted to approach my own healthcare. I started a small herb garden that grew into several herb gardens and began making my own herbal remedies, learning from trial and error. In 2006 I enrolled in an Herbalist correspondence course and studied formally for 2 years, graduating in 2008 with a deep desire to create quality natural remedies. I have spent the subsequent years formulating healing medicines and beauty products, learning and growing as an herbalist along the way. I continue my herbal education every day as a member of Herbmentor.com, a community filled with herbalists of all types, some professional, some world famous and some just plain old backyard herbalists like myself. I have published 2 articles on the web about herbs and their benefits and hope to write more in the future.
I am happily married with 2 grown children and 3 grandchildren. Our son Josh lives in Alaska and the rest of us reside in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. My husband is a microbiologist and medical technologist and works for the UW system. We have a dog, 2 cats, a big house and yard and are just trying, like everyone else, to live the dream!
